VOLS Basketball Game

Jody, Taylor, and I went to a UT Men's Basketball game Monday night. We had a great time, although we missed Aubrey who was spending the night with a friend. The atmosphere in Thompson Boiling Arena would get anyone excited about UT Basketball. Here are some pictures of our evening. Thanks Papaw for the tickets!!

Are You Ready for the Holidays?

I found this devotional helpful this week and hope you will too:

Are You Ready for the Holidays? By Van Walton

"What matters is not your outer appearance.. . but your inner disposition. " 1 Peter 3:1 (MSG)

Devotion:This year I am tempted to keep a close count of the number of times I hear the question, "Are you ready for the holidays?" What does that mean exactly? If I were to guess what people mean when they ask one another if they are "ready for the holidays," I would say most are not talking about spiritual readiness. I bet what they typically mean is, "Have you made a list of all the stuff you need to do before the 25th and have you checked it off?" Usually the answer that follows is a long list of to-do's before Christmas day. Baking, sending Christmas cards, buying and wrapping gifts, hiding presents from the children, or delivering them to neighbors, choir or play practice, preparing for guests, or preparing to travel. My list also often includes planning and attending parties, house cleaning, and finally -- my favorite -- decorating.

I wonder, if Jesus were making a holiday preparations list, what would He include? What if those who were there on Christ's birth day could advise us on getting ready for Christmas? What would be on their list? Joseph might recommend we listen closely to the voice of God to prepare. Mary may suggest we ponder the miracles of heaven.Perhaps the angels would propose we sing about the King.The shepherds may gently guide us to follow their act of worship.Possibly the wise men would teach us to give Jesus our most valuable gifts.The innkeeper may suggest "Hospitality: open your heart and home." And Jesus' list would likely encourage us to be a light on the hill pointing the way for others to know Him.

Comparing my to-do list to the ones above, I wonder if I lived at that time, would I have missed Christ's birth? Would my busyness have kept me from slowing down to take time to worship in the stable? Unfortunately I have "missed" many Christmases in the here and now because I've not slowed down long enough to bow my knees and experience the miracle. I want Christmas for my family to be more about an act of worship and awe than a frenzy to decorate, shop, and jump through the world's hoops. I don't want to miss the true reason we celebrate.

A few years ago I set out to purposefully plan the way I celebrate. As a result, my Christmases have become increasingly simpler and at the same time my heart has become increasingly more satisfied. Are you ready for the holidays?

Father, Thank You for sending Your son to point the way to You. Please remind me that preparing my heart for You is more satisfying than any other preparations I could make. Simple and pure devotion to You is what makes this season so special. Help me balance my time and keep my focus on You this year. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Wilderness Resort Indoor Water park



On Thursday, December 18th, we went to the new indoor waterpark in Sevierville, TN called Wild Water Dome in the Wilderness Resort. The grand opening was on Thursday and we were invited, through a homeschool group, to come and enjoy the indoor waterpark for the grand opening. There is a large wave pool, a surf rider, 3 waterslides, a play structure with a tipping bucket of water, a hot tube, and a toddler play area with swings. It was so much fun and what a great PE class for the day!!

We went to Black Bear Christmas in Pigeon Forge, TN on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. The food was delicious, the music and dancing was good, and the show was good. There was snow in the show and we saw real live reindeer!! We had a great time.

Field Trips and Classes

One of the best times to home school is during the Christmas season. We are able to do so many extra curricular activities that we would not have time for if we were "at school" all day. We have gone on many field trips. We visited The Ramsey House (some pictures from this trip are below). We toured the house and learned about the history of the house. The kids then made a craft that would have been similar to what children would have made at the Ramsey House many, many years ago. Taylor's group made candles. Aubrey's group made dolls.

We went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Bijou (this is one of Aubrey's favorite shows). The show was great and actors did a fabulous job.

We have also been participating in a Christmas Around the World classes. My friend Abby put these classes together last year for her daughters and opened it up this year for other children. Taylor and Aubrey went to the classes and learned about Christmas celebrations in Italy and Brazil. The girls had a great time. Thanks Abby for opening up your home to the other children and teaching these classes.

We have visited Ronald McDonald House with Aubrey's small group from co-op. We took gifts to the house for children to open on Christmas Eve. Taylor and Aubrey had a great time picking out gifts to take to the house.

Bennett's Birthday

My nephew, Bennett, turned 7 years old on Tuesday, December 16th. I can't believe the "baby" of the family is turning 7 years old, I remember the day he was born!!

He is such a special boy to us. I hope you had a great day Bennett.

Here are some things I love about Bennett:

1. He is funny. He will do whatever he needs to get a laugh. However, most of the time he does not have to try - most funny things he does come naturally!!
2. He has a sweet spirit. He is very caring. When I was sick in August with the stomach stuff, he was at the house one day after school. I had to leave the room to be sick and when I came back he asked if I was okay and if I needed anything.
3. He has the best hugs!
4. He loves to play sports - football, basketball, and baseball especially. He plays on basketball and baseball teams during the year and I enjoy watching him play, except for when he gets hurts!! He is a competitor!!
5. He loves Jesus!! He asked Jesus into his heart on Wednesday, December 10th. He wants to be a preacher like his Daddy and he loves his church.

Bennett, you can always know that Uncle Jody and Aunt Amy are very proud of you. We think you are AWESOME DUDE!!

On Sunday night, December 14, 2008, Taylor and Aubrey participated in the Christmas program at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. All the children's choirs participated. The children did a great job. They sung several songs and did one song in sign language which was really pretty.

Seymour Parade



On Saturday, December 13, 2008, Aubrey marched in the Seymour, TN parade. The weather was beautiful for the people who participated (I thought it was cold to sit and watch the parade!!). It was not too cold for the people who were walking and moving around and it was not raining. This was Aubrey's first time marching in the parade with dance the studio. She had rode on the float with the dance studio until now. She was a little worried that it would be a long walk. She said it was not bad at all!! She had a lot of fun with her friends. They handed out candy and waved to the many people who had came to watch the parade.

Taylor did not participate in the parade because her preteen group from church went to a nursing home to go Christmas caroling. Then the group went to West Town mall to eat dinner and Christmas shop. Thanks Mr. Jesse for taking the kids, Taylor had a great time.

I can not beleive...

I bought gasoline at Kroger in Seymour last night for $1.67 a gallon!!!
Can you believe it?

Two daughters

I am sitting here reading emails on my computer while the girls are sharing Jody's computer. I am just listening to them getting a long and working together on their project on Webkinz. They are being so sweet while talking to each other and taking turns with each other. They are asking each other their opinion about what they should do, etc... This is not totally unusual for them, but it just caught me in a sad/happy moment. Maybe because of Thanksgiving being a few days away and I am looking at things with a thankful heart.

I am sad because they are growing up so quickly. They have gone from being just sisters to now being friends. When they are away from each other for a significant amount of time they call each other to see how things are going. When they get back together after time away from each other, they share with each other what they did, what people said, but most importantly what they were wearing!!

I am also sad because they no longer need me to be the referee to work out battles or arguments. If they have a problem, most of the time, they are able to settle it on their own. They have learned how to get along and what to do if the other is bothering them (without having to yell for me).

I am sad because "play" no longer means having me around to do things with them. They are happy if I am around to play with them, but they are just as fine if I am not. They like to play Wii together, dance, play with dolls, fix doll's hair, ride bikes, take a walk, read a magazine, look at catalogs, pretend shopping, pretend to be in COLLEGE and live away from home, etc... and they can do this without me.

They are working with preschool children at church. I have watched them interact with the children and I am so proud and yet sad!! I am proud because they do an awesome job talking with the children, finding out what the child needs if he/she is upset, playing with the children, making up games and songs (some I had done with them when they were younger), and caring for the children. They both have such a caring heart. But it makes me sad because in my eyes I see them 2 and 4 years old and they are suppose to be the ones being cared for by others and still in the preschool department. Not the "big kids" who help with the children!!

They are dancing a tap dance duet Friday at the Fantasy of Trees. I have watched them learn this dance, I have watched them practice for many weeks, and I am so excited to watch the dance at the Fantasy of Trees. While practicing, they love to dance together and they show it in their expressions. I hope this shows in the Fantasy of Trees, but nervous feelings may take over!! And I love to hear them correct each other while practicing - no one can tell you like it is like a sister can!!

I am happy because I have 2 daughters whom I love very much who are becoming closer friends each day!! I am happy because I get to experience this growing relationship with them and help it grow by providing opportunities for them to do many things together. Thank you God for giving me 2 daughters!!

Hi

I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted. Nothing exciting has been going on, just the normal every day stuff. We are beginning a remodeling project to the house, so that is keeping me busy and keeping the house a mess!! I will post pictures of the completed project.

It is cold. I love fall and winter but for some reason this year I am cold all the time. I can't have on too many layers of clothes. The only time I get warm is when I am in my car and have the heater blowing full blast in my face. It is so nice!! Of course some of the others in the car with me do not think so. I advised all who ride with me and do not like HEAT, to sit in the back of the van and I will gladly open a window for you!! It does not help that Jody is in San Diego this week where it is 80's and sunny.

I have been putting out my Christmas decorations. I have my Christmas tree out and decorated and the Christmas trees in the girls rooms are out and decorated. I have a few other Christmas decorations through the house that does not get in the way of the remodeling project.
I made some ornaments with my friend Allison who sells Uppercase Living. We had a great time making these ornaments and socializing. I will post pictures of the ornaments later when I know where my camera is... I have a few other projects with Uppercase Living that I will post pictures of soon.

We celebrated the birthday of a friend today. We went to lunch and then made a cookie cake. I left before eating of the cookie cake but I heard from Taylor and Aubrey that it was delicious!! Happy 9th Birthday Rebekah. Thanks for letting us join in on your special day!!

Tomorrow after school, we have piano lessons, haircut, errands to run, dance lessons, and Living Christmas practice!!

I do have some prayer requests: Please pray for Jeremy Frye and his family. Jeremy is recovering from a 30 foot fall in the mountains a couple of weeks ago.

Also for Adrienne, Jim and Owen. Jim and Adrienne were planning on adopting a baby this week. The baby was born on Thursday last week. Jim, Adrienne, and Owen went to the city where the baby was being born, took care of the baby after the birth, met the birth mother and the grandmother of the baby, and felt like everything was going well with the adoption. On Monday, the birth mother changed her mind and had the baby taken to the agency instead of letting Adrienne and Jim take the baby home with them. Yesterday the birth had the baby brought to her home. It seems like the birth mother has changed her mind to let Adrienne and Jim adopt her baby girl. Please pray for Jim, Adrienne and Owen. We went to the Veteran's Day parade this morning in downtown Knoxville. It was nice to spend the time thanking and honoring the Veterans that were at the parade and to remember the people serving our country at this time who could not be at the parade. One of the most important things I am privileged to do as a mother is to pray for my children every day. Pictures

We did pictures of the kiddos today at Covered Bridge Subdivision If you like to have outdoor nature pictures taken, I would recommend this subdivision for your pictures. There are lots of great backdrops for pictures. Here is a preview of some of the pictures. As you can see in the pictures, they had a lot fun playing around!! I can not show them all because some will need to be surprises!!


I can't believe how Taylor, Aubrey and Bennett are growing up. I have been looking at pictures from past years this week. It seems like not long ago it was just Taylor for pictures and then Taylor and baby Aubrey and then Taylor , Aubrey and baby Bennett. Now they all seem so grown-up. I am so proud of you Taylor, Aubrey and Bennett! I love you guys and you are gorgeous!




Saturday Fun

Today we went to Fall Festival at Farragut Primary School. This is where my niece Kaleigh goes to school. She had a music program with other 2nd grade classes. They sung really cute songs and had really cute motions. Kaleigh, you did a great job. I really liked the apple song and of course Rocky Top!! Thanks for inviting us.

We also went to Bella's birthday party. Bella is Kaleigh's Yorkie whose official birthday is Tuesday but we celebrated with her today. Bella, we hope to have a dog cousin for you to play with someday. Here is a picture of Bella at her birthday party.

One of the things that I love about Taylor and Aubrey is that they are so smart about technical things like computers, cell phones, etc. They get this from the Dad and I am so glad they are able to figure things like this out on their own.

Disney on Ice

We went to the Disney on Ice show tonight at the Civic Colisieum. The show was good. It featured all our favorite rides and the Incredibles. It was just like being at Disney World seeing the rides (okay maybe not just like it!!)

We attended a workshop at the end of the Disney on Ice show where some of the skaters demonstrated different skating moves for us. They also told us what it was like to travel with Disney on Ice.

the Park

You pack a lunch, go the park and have lots of fun!!

That is what we did Thursday. We finished school, went to piano lessons, and enjoyed the beautiful day with Dad at home at the park. We enjoyed God's beautiful creation, got some pictures, and we got PE time!!

Sevierville Winterfest

I am ready for Christmas. The girls danced in Sevierville at the Winterfest. There was hot chocolate, pop corn, games, Christmas lights, Santa, fireworks, and Christmas music. The Grinch was also there ( I know some of you will relate to him!! ). We had a good time and the girls did a great job dancing. I will wait some before putting out my Christmas decorations - but not too long!! Maybe some of these pictures will help you get into the Christmas spirit as well!

Baptism Pictures

Here are some pictures from Taylor and Aubrey's baptism. In the first pictures you will see Mr. Chris talking to the girls about the baptism will happen. There is a picture of Mr. Chris and the girls together. Then there are pictures during the baptism.

Mr. Chris is the Children's Minister at Sevier Heights. He has been so kind and sweet to the girls since we started attending Sevier Heights. They both were in the children's department when we started attending the church. He welcomed them into the group and made them feel like they belong. He is great with children and does an awesome job as the children's minster at Sevier Heights. Thanks Mr. Chris!

Thankful Thursday

- I am thankful Jody is suppose to be home today from Ohio. He is suppose to be home for the next 2 weeks without traveling!! We will be so glad he is at home with us during this time, it has been a long time since he has been home for the week!!

_ I am thankful that I early voted already and don't have to worry about getting in the rush of last day early voting. I am also glad we won't be in the "voting day" line.

- I am thankful that God is in control of this election and He already knows who the next President of the United States will be. He already knows what the next months will be like for us. God is in control of our county and future leadership. I am responsible for voting for who I think it the best godly leader for our country, but ultimately, it is God who puts our president in office. I'm glad He is in control!

- I am thankful for the beautiful leaves and cool weather. I am thankful for the Fall season.

- I am thankful for Halloween?!? We enjoy visiting friends and family and having a fun night as a family. This year we will travel trick or treat to family and friends and then we will come home and trick and treat in the neighborhood with friends. We will be handing out candy at our house. I enjoy seeing all the kids dressed up. We will also have the fire pit going in the driveway and will be roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate by the fire. It will be lots of fun, come join us if you don't have Halloween plans already!!

Please Pray...

for Kelly Hicks. Kelly is the daughter of Taylor and Aubrey's piano teacher, Mrs. Jennifer. Kelly has been having health issues for many, many weeks now. She has been really sick. She continues to be sick. She has been out of school since September because of being in the hospital and being so sick. She will stay in the hospital for weeks and then come home only to be home for a few days and then has to go back to the hospital because of complications.

Please pray for Kelly. Pray that God will heal her body. She is having two procedures tomorrow. Please pray that these will go well without complication and it will give Kelly relief.

Please pray for Kelly's family. Mrs. Jennifer has health issues as well. The stress of caring for her daughter, the stress of watching her daughter suffer, the long weeks at the hospital - all of this is not the best for Mrs. Jennifer's health. Please pray that God will keep her healthy and strong during this time of caring for Kelly.

This morning we went to hear the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra perform for the Children's concert. It was a good concert and the girls enjoyed it. We decided today we know lots of classical music (of course they played the songs that the children would likely recognize and enjoy!!). We decided we were going to listen to classical music more.

Tonight Taylor helped in the preschool department for their Halloween party at church. The children's department had a Halloween party tonight at church instead of AWANA. Aubrey dressed up like Sharpay and had a great time at the party.

Halloween Party

One night we went to Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We had not been before and it was so much fun. Most of the rides are open. You can trick or treat all over the park. There are dance parties, Halloween fireworks, a Halloween parade. It was awesome! We all had a great time. The kids (and adults) get to dress up in costumes. Taylor dressed up like Gabriella the life guard in High School Musical 2, Aubrey was dressed up like Sharpay the golfer in High School Musical 2 and Kaleigh was dressed up like Hannah Montana.

We also got a picture with Snow White and all 7 Dwarfs. We never see these all together and we were able to get a picture with them all!! We were so excited.

The picture of Aubrey asleep in the car was BEFORE the party!! We had been at Animal Kingdom all day and it had been one of the hotter days, went back to the hotel to change into our costumes and then went to the party at Magic Kingdom. She was tired and needed a little rest. The party lasted until midnight. We were finishing our rides at midnight so it was late on the way back to the hotel and she did not fall asleep then!! What is up with that?

Disney Princesses



Taylor and Aubrey have always liked the princesses since they were young. We have had most of their costumes for dress up clothes and we have all pretended to be one of the princesses at one time or the other. Here are some pictures of the princesses that we saw.

Car Shopping at Epcot

At the end of Test Track in Epcot, there are cars for to you to look at and get in. It is like a car dealership floor and they have information about the cars. Lots of times they have cars that not even released yet to sale.

Taylor and Aubrey picked out the cars they want to have when they turn 16 and begin to drive!!

We are home!

And we had a great time at Disney World. We went to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studio (formerly MGM Studio) and Epcot. We have so much fun at each park. We had pictures with lots of characters. We got to ride all our favorite rides many times. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I tried not to put too many pictures in this post!!

Disney World

We are at Disney World. We had a safe trip here. We arrived this afternoon. After checking into our hotel, we went to Downtown Disney for dinner and shopping. We ate at Rainforest Cafe. I have pictures that I will post later.

We are planning on going to Magic Kingdom tomorrow. I am so excited.

Aubrey was feeling some better last night but she is not feeling as well today. We have given her medicine and hopefully she will be feeling better tomorrow. If not, she may have to go visit Dr. Mickey Mouse!!

Aubrey is sick

Aubrey is not feeling good today. She has had a fever and not wanted to do anything but sleep all day. She has complained with a headache some of the day but says nothing else hurts.

I hope she is not feeling as bad as she acts and is just trying to get out of packing for Disney World this afternoon!!

Field Trips

We have gone on two fun field trips this week:

On Tuesday, we went to WBIR and took a tour of the studio and then watched the live broadcast of the noon news in the studio. I was so excited, probably more excited than any of the children on the trip! We met Beth Haynes and Julya Johnson.

On Wednesday, we went to the planetarium at Heritage High School. We saw a show about the planets and then a laser show. We have been to the planetarium before on a field trip. We saw a different show this time.

It has been a busy week with field trips. That is all the "planned" field trips for this week. However, we are always open to last minute field trips. So, you never know!!

We will be getting ready for our trip the rest of the week. 4 more days until we leave for Disney World!!

Very Thankful Thursday

Today I am very thankful for God's protection and guidance. Taylor, Aubrey, two friends, and myself were at Knoxville Center Mall yesterday when there was a shooting. We were eating at the Food Court when it happened. We were able to get out of the mall immediately and safely because of God's grace protecting us. We are all still scared and nervous.

I am praying for the family of the man who died in the shooting. I am praying for every person that was a witness of the shooting or at the mall during the shooting. I am praying that the children that were involved will soon forget what happened and that they will have peace and feel safety again.

We will be holding strong to these verses...

Deuteronomy 31:6" Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Camping Fun

We love to go camping. We would go every weekend if our schedules allowed it. Papaw and Nana went camping this weekend also so we had great neighbors at the campground!! Thanks Papaw and Nana for going camping with us. We had a great time!

Aubrey lost a tooth while we camping, that is why there is a picture of her mouth. She wanted me to get a picture of the hole in her mouth, but it was just not in a good place to get a good picture. You can get the idea.

It was cold in the morning and at a night this weekend at the campground. Some of us were colder than others!! I love the pictures of Taylor and Aubrey bundled up staying warm.

On Sunday we rode around Cades Cove loop. Taylor and Aubrey rode in the back of the truck. You will see a picture of them at the beginning of the ride and a picture of them at the end of the ride.

We rode bikes a lot this weekend. We went on hikes. We played board games. Of course we watched ballgames on Saturday. We also ate lots of food!

Week in Review

Jody and I went to see Fireproof on Monday afternoon. It is an excellent movie and greatly blessed and strengthened our marriage. I would definitely recommend seeing this film. It was refreshing to see the miracle God can perform in any marriage no matter the state. Full of fun humor and tear jerking scenes. Also great music!!

Tuesday morning Taylor woke up with a fever, headache, very sore throat, stomach ache, and neck hurting. She went to the doctor and had strep throat. After lying on the couch all day, being waited on by her family, and two doses of antibiotics she felt better by the bedtime. When she woke up the next day she felt much better and has been well since.

On Friday we left for camping. We went to KOA in Townsend and stayed Friday - Monday. I will post more about what we did and pictures in the next post.

I wanted to share some pictures of Bennett from this week. On Saturday, he went to John Sevier Home. When he left his house he was normal Bennett and when he came back he was somebody different (not sure who this character is - somebody from Spider Man).

Weekend Fun

This weekend has been fun and busy. We had a garage sale at my sister's house. Her subdivision had a yard sale this weekend and I took some of my treasures to her house for others to enjoy!! I sold lots of treasures and got to visit with lots of people. It was a good Friday and Saturday at the yard sale!

Jody went camping Friday night with guys from our Bible Fellowship class. The girls went to sleep over at friends houses. What was I to do? I went shopping!! I spent 2 hours in Target by myself, it was scary!!

The girls had Living Christmas Tree dance practice Saturday and Sunday. It was a weekend practice. They had a good time of course because they were dancing!! They were really tired by the end of the day of Sunday!!

Sunday night at church Aubrey's choir sang during worship service. This is the first time this group has sung together as 3rd and 4th graders!! They did an awesome job. This is the group I work with and I am glad I have gotten to know these children. They are really great kids and we have a good time each week in practice. We are starting practice for Living Christmas Tree music, Christmas music, etc.. It is a busy time in choir.

Jody is working in Knoxville this week!! We are so excited. I hope everyone has a great week!

Biltmore House in Ashville, NC

Yesterday we went to Biltmore House in Ashville, NC and had a great time. They had lots of demonstrators set up and lots of activities for the kids. We took a tour of the flower and vegetable garden, held a baby chick, sampled good food, decorated cookies with chocolate, made food designs with syrup, and took a tour of Biltmore House. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time. Thanks Nana for going with us.

Wednesday Word

As I was doing my Bible study one verse really got my attention this morning.

In Psalm 81:10 God instructs, "Open wide your mouth and I will fill it."

In the study Lysa TerKeurst reminded me that God will give me what to say today. What to say in happy moments. What to say in aggravating moments. What to say in moments where I feel insecure, and what to say when I feel completely confident. What to say in disappointing moments. What to say in response to questions.

I also needed to be reminded that sometimes it is best not to say nothing at all. This is the hardest for me because I can always have a response.

One challenge of homeschool for me is having Taylor and Aubrey around me to see the real me ALL the time. They are always with me, wherever I go, whomever I talk to... to hear the words I use in every situation. Sometimes I will need to remind them to get rid of the bad attitude or to be careful with their words. Then I have to wonder, are they repeating and imitating the words and attitudes that they see from me?

My prayer is Psalm 86:11 "Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth..."

Manic Monday

That is what I feel like we are having today. Since getting up this morning it has been go, go, go. After school today we have been cleaning out Taylor and Aubrey's bedroom. We are getting ready for a garage sale and I am using this as an excuse to clean out clothes, toys, stuffed animals, etc... (yes this is a carried over project from last week!!). I will let you know more about the garage sale this weekend, just make plans to come by on Friday and/or Saturday.

For dinner tonight we had homemade pizzas. This is one of few meals that I can fix that is a favorite for Taylor and Aubrey. I prepare the toppings and then they fix whatever they want on their pizza. The pizza was extra delicious tonight because we had been on a bike ride/walk before dinner and were extra hungry and had extra calories to eat!! (the first pizza is mine, the second pizza is Taylor's and the third pizza is Aubrey's)

Taylor Sings

Taylor sung tonight in worship service. She sung with her 5th and 6th grade choir. This is the first time this group has sung together as 5th and 6th graders. We have just been back in choir practice for 5 weeks. They did a great job. I love to hear the children singing and praising God with song. Thanks Mrs. Cheri and your helpers for making this a great time for Taylor and all the children. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this choir.

They will continue to work on learning more new music. They are beginning practice for Living Christmas Tree and special Christmas music. It is a busy time in Children's Choir!!

Weekend Projects

First let me say there was not a lot of "we" in the weekend projects. This was poor work boy's weekend projects. What do you expect, he was home all day Saturday? Here are some examples of the great work he did. Thanks a bunch work boy!!



If you can't tell from the pictures here is the honey-do list for Saturday (in no specific order):
1. garbage to the dump (after getting it all together from all over the house)
2. put up a board in the kitchen (after going to Lowe's to get some supplies)
3. unclog the drain in Taylor and Aubrey's bathtub (very yucky job and a trip to Lowe's for a special tool and no picture because still some more cleaning to be done before a picture can be taken!!)
4. mow the yard
5. replace ceiling fan in bedroom
6. replace ceiling fan light in bedroom
7. cook dinner (this is our favorite dish that he prepares for dinner. Chicken and pasta - very delicious. This picture does not really show its greatness. This picture is from Monday when we reheated leftovers to have it for lunch!)
8. watch the Vols ballgame and relax

I am happy to say he got it all done and was probably happy to leave this week to go to Atlanta to work and rest!!

Fun Friday

Today we went to Fort Kid to play and have a picnic with friends. We had a great time and the weather was wonderful. We then decided to go to the Sunsphere and go to the observation deck. I had not been in the sunsphere for a long time. Taylor and Aubrey had never beenin the Sunsphere. It was a lot of fun to read about the World's Fair when it was in Knoxville and to remember the World's Fair. I remember going to the fair with my sister, grandmother and papaw. We would sometimes just go and sit and watch the people who were visiting and eat a funnel cake. We would ride some rides. It is a great memory.

After the sunsphere visit we visited the Candy Factory. Our family has two favorite things at the Candy Factory and that is chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate covered potato chips. Today we got chocolate covered potato chips.

Thanks for a great day Abby and Marie and families!! We had a great time.

Taylor took most of these pictures. She wants to be a photographer one day. I think she did a great job! She wanted to get some pictures of Baptist Hospital to have because it will not look like this in a few months when the building is torn down. The football field is on the world's fair park and was used for the pep rally on Thursday for the UT vs. Gator game!!

A Beautiful Day for a Tea

Today we got dressed up and went to a tea room for lunch. We met a group of our friends from co-op at the tea room. We had a lovely lunch and a good time of fellowship with friends. The tea room was in Gatlinburg, so of course we stopped to do some shopping at the outlets in Pigeon Forge before driving home.

Today was a beautiful fall like day. I had to get a picture of the trees and sky. If the weather stays like this the leaves will be so pretty when they turn colors this fall.

Monday Cleaning

One of my projects this week is cleaning. Not only cleaning up the stuff lying around and cleaning up the dirt but organizing and getting rid of stuff. I am getting ready for a garage sale in a few weekends and I am cleaning out ( at least today anyway ).

But I have noticed that while I clean certain areas of the house (today it was laundry room, dining room, and kitchen) other areas are being destroyed by Taylor and Aubrey (today it was the playroom). I think tomorrow they will be encouraged to help clean up and clean out ( I think I may have to do some bribing ).

Thankful Thursday

I have had lots of time to think lately while being sick. So "Thankful Thursday" is going to be about my thoughts on God's grace.

I want to live my daily life in praise to God. I want to remember that God gave everything. He gave His Son. He watched His Son die on the cross. He willingly sacrificed His Son because He loves me and He loves you. He has given me many wonderful blessings. I sometimes have a pity party for myself because I am not feeling good, I am tired, I have too much to do, I have to do something I don't want to do, etc.... But I want to live daily in a state of realizing how wonderfully blessed I am. I don't have a need that God does not supply for. God watches over me every day, every step I take, every breath I take. He gives me grace each day and for that I am thankful.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Just a fun day

We had a fun day today. We did school this morning which consisted of prepositions, nouns, subject, verbs, subtraction, addition, word problems, spelling words, etc..... After school Kristy and her boys came by with a birthday surprise. I am so glad they came by. It was so nice to see them and visit with them. We miss you all!!

Later this afternoon Taylor and Aubrey had friends come over to play before church. We went to the park and while the girls played, I walked around the track. It was a beautiful day to be outside. Then we played at the house while I cleaned house (not that much fun!!), had dinner and went to church.

Cheer game

Taylor had a game to cheer for tonight. It had been rainy all day so we thought the game may be canceled but it stopped raining when it was time for the games to start. Taylor cheered the South Doyle Cherokee 7th grade boys to a victory.

You may notice in the pictures that Taylor (although her hair is pulled back) and Aubrey got haircuts today.

What a Storm

On Monday evening, Knoxville had another storm. The wind was strong and the rain was hard. We were not home. We had been at Papaw and Nana's for dinner (which was delicious). We waited for the storm to end before going home. Then the power went out. We could not get in our house because the only way to get in was with the garage door opener - which did not work without power - and/or a key I had left hanging on the refrigerator. So, needless, to say, we had a sleepover at Nana and Papaws.

Also on Monday, we spent the afternoon after school at the pool. We are spending as much time in the pool before it gets too cool.
Jody is working in Dallas, Texas this week. We miss him.
We have a busy week planned. I will update through the week.

Today we continued the celebration by going to lunch at Wasabi's after church. Wasabi's is one of Aubrey's ( and all of ours ) favorite places to eat. She had a good lunch. The people at Wasabi's sung Happy Birthday to her and played the birthday drum for her. She enjoyed this except for having to wear the chef's hat that Wasabi's wants the birthday person to wear (it did not really go with her outfit!!).

What a Fun Day!!

On Aubrey's birthday, we spent the day at Splash Country. We had a great time. The weather was not too good when we got there - it was cloudy and sprinkling, but it cleared up and was great by mid morning. It ended up being sunny and beautiful. There were not many people at Splash Country so the lines were down for all the rides. Taylor and Aubrey had friends go with them. The girls also wanted Nana and Papaw to go with them. Thanks Nana and Papaw for spending the day with Aubrey on her birthday. She had a great time because you all were there with her.

Last night we had a party for Aubrey at our house. Thanks everyone for coming and celebrating the night with Aubrey.

Well, my baby turns 9 today....

It is hard to believe that 9 years ago today, Aubrey was born. She was born 8 weeks early. She weighed 4 pounds 6 ounces when she was born. She was so tiny and so frail. Yet she was beautiful and she was a fighter. She had some rough days in the beginning of her life because she was so small and born so early. Yet, she was strong. She began to grow and get stronger and she has been healthy since her birth. We thank God each day for her health and her life.

I was looking at some pictures the other day and thinking of the day she was born and I simply can't believe we are 9 years into this journey with her...

Let me share 9 things about Aubrey that I love...

1)She has spirit. All that know her have no doubt about this.
2)She has passion. When there is something she wants, she will strive with everything in her to get it.
3)She has a sweet and caring heart.
4)She observes and listens to all going on around her.
5)She has a sweet laugh.
6)She loves to dance and sing.
7)She loves her family.
8)She loves clothes and fashion.
9)She is becoming who God has created her to be.

Over the next 9 years, she will move from girl to woman and begin to peruse God's plan in HER life.... I KNOW she has amazing gifts to share with the world....I only pray that I help her discover those gifts.

I am back!!!

I am feeling much better and I am so glad. I feel normal again, except that I do not want to eat, which may be a "new normal" for me. I have always enjoyed eating and could always eat a good meal or enjoy a good snack. I still get nauseated when I eat and I do not want to eat more than a couple of bites. But that is an improvement. I had a test last Friday. I hope this is the worst test that I will have to do ever. The stuff I had to drink so they could X-Ray parts of my body was disgusting. I feel sorry for everyone that was near UT Radiology last Friday. I was a horrible patient. I do not ever want to go through that again. I have 2 scopes this Friday. I am hoping they are not as bad.

Thank you to everyone who has called to check me and the family, for the cards, for the visits, for the transportation for Taylor and Aubrey, and especially for the prayers. I especially want to thank my Mom, Dad, and sister who basically had to care for me and the girls the first week I was sick. Jody was out of town because of work and I was too sick to take care of myself - let along my children. My mom would cook for us, take me to appointments, get my medicine, make sure I took my medicine, transportation to dance classes, cheer practice, and many other things.... She would let me sleep all day while caring for Taylor and Aubrey and doing everything I should have been doing. She would let me sleep on the couch while she cooked supper and made sure my girls were taken care of. Thanks Mom, you are the greatest. I am sorry that I have worried you and Dad so much in the last few weeks but I do appreciate ALL you both do to take care of me and my family. You all are the best!!

Thanks to Jody to. He missed the first week of me being sick because he was out of town for work. He would call and want to know how I was feeling but unless he talked to someone besides me, he did not get much information. I would be to medicated, sick, or asleep to talk much. So, he was away and not really knowing much about how things were going on at home. I am sure this was hard for him. However, last week he was home. He had planned on taking a few days of vacation last week because we had planned on going camping. However, those plans changed. So, he got to stay home and take care of things at home. You did a good job Jody. Thanks for all your help!

We have lots planned this week. I will keep you posted on our happenings for the week.

Labor Day Weekend

We spent Labor Day weekend just hanging around the house. Jody did some projects around the house while I supervised on Saturday. He was excited about this!!

On Sunday, we went to Jody's Aunt Winky and Uncle Ronnie's house for a dinner, swim, riding 4 wheelers and more!! We had a great time. The kids enjoyed playing and spending time together. Thanks Ronnie and Winky for a great time.



On Monday - Taylor, Aubrey and I spent some time at the pool enjoying some last days at the pool. Later we cheered the VOLS in their first game of the season. We are happy it is VOL time again in TENNESSEE!!

Feeling about the same...

After 2 different doctor's visits, a CT scan, blood work, 8 days of antibiotic, pain pills for one week, and Phenergan for the last part of the week, I am feeling ... about the same!!

I did find out the doctor wants me to have an XR this Friday and 2 scopes next Friday to get a look at what could be going on. So, that is the plan for now. I am not at all excited about this plan, remember I don't like medicine, needles, doctors, nurses, tests,... and this plan involves all of the above. Beginning yesterday, liquids have been okay on my stomach but food is still not a good thing (it has been 9 days since a meal has been part of my daily routine and that is not normal for me!!).

So, that is the plan for now. I will be trying to do some of the normal stuff that goes on in our life, I think I am needing an energy booster. I will update again soon.

Sickness

Work Boy

Work boy stayed in town this week. So, I have put him to work around the house of course. He has been busy pressure washing the deck and driveway. Then he put waterseal on the deck and fixed some cracks in the driveway. He has been working hard but he has it finished and it looks so good. Thanks work boy!!

Fun Friday

We had a fun day today.

* We went to a small group event at a friend's house to play Wii and eat pizza. The girls had fun with other friends and I enjoyed the company of another mom as we planned the small group events for the upcoming year.

* We got to keep Wyatt and have baby fun today. Wyatt is a joy to have around and we have so much fun with him. You can just forget getting anything else done on days when Wyatt is around, we just play and enjoy baby time!!! (Happy 10 month old birthday today Wyatt).



* Aubrey is going to a friend's house for a sleepover tonight. She was so excited. She was up early by her choice (which is not typical of Aubrey!!) and could not wait for 3:00pm for Sydney to pick her up. I am sure they will have a great time and I can't wait to hear all about it.

* Taylor has a friend over and they have enjoyed listening to music, painting fingernails, playing with Wyatt, taking a walk, and just being together - we are glad you came over Katherine.

Still to come on Fun Friday...

* I am going to a Taste of Home party at a friend's house. It will be fun to think about new ways to decorate my home.

* Yard boy is mowing the yard

* Exciting Olympics to watch tonight. I am so into watching the Olympics this time. I am exhausted from watching it way to late but I have enjoyed the competition so far.

Please Pray for....

Wesley Houser. Wesley is a 12th grader at South Doyle High School. He was involved in a motorcycle accident yesterday on Chapman Highway. He is at UT Hospital in ICU. He is listed in critical condition. Please pray for his family - Johnny, Brenda, and Kendal.

We know this family through Taylor. Her and Kendal have been in school together at New Hopewell since kindergarten.

Please pray for Wesley and his family.

Taylor and Morgan

Taylor had a friend over today. Morgan is a friend that Taylor met at school and they became good friends from the first day of school in Mrs. Haun's 2nd grade class. For 3rd grade, Morgan changed schools and moved to Seymour, this was so sad for Taylor. Her best friend was not at the same school anymore. She thought she would never see her again. Because they were such good friends, Morgan's mom and I have tried to work out sleepovers and times to get together. The girls got to see each other a few times a year for a while and spent birthdays together. Today I was thinking about it and watching them together and realized how they have developed a friendship that will probably last a lifetime. They may go for months without seeing each other and as soon as they see each other they hug and pick up where they left all the last time. You would never guess that they may have not seen each other for weeks or months if you were watching them. I also noticed that it is no longer up to me and Morgan's mom to keep them connected. Now that they are older and talk on the phone, etc. they make plans to see each other because they want to!! Taylor and Morgan have a special friendship and I am happy that Morgan and her family are in our lives.

Week in Review

Well you can tell around here that "summer" is about over. Lots of activities started back this week and lots going on. Taylor and Aubrey started dance classes this week. They will be dancing at a fair in September so they started learning dance routines right away. Taylor is cheering again this year for Cherokees Football Team of 7th grade boys. She had her first game of the year to cheer for on Saturday. They played against the Seymour Eagles. We also did some of our normal stuff of swimming and went to Splash Country on Friday. Jody spent the week working in Sarasota, Florida.

We had a good week and I will do better this week of taking pictures!! I hope everyone has a great week.

Thankful Thursday

My Thankful Thursday is about school because school is starting. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to homeschool Taylor and Aubrey. We are beginning our second year of homeschooling and I am so excited to begin another year with them.

One of the joys of homeschooling for me is a deeper relationship with Taylor and Aubrey. We are together many more hours now than we were when they were in public school. This has given me more chances to realize how much I love them and how much I enjoy being with them.

After spending this week getting ready, I am happy to report that we are all stocked up and ready to start our school year!! Everything looks so pretty all arranged on the shelf with nothing out of place. I know it won't stay that way long, so I am enjoying it now!!

What are our plans for the school year you may wonder...I know we are going to attempt some sort of lapbook/notebook. I still have some planning on the subjects, I am hoping to do one per month. For August our study is the Olympics and China. We are learning to write Chinese words and numbers and learning about the Chinese culture this week.

Our church's children's choir groups will be centered around a country each month. I plan on expanding on that country each month in school. This will be interesting to learn about various countries around the world and it will tie in nicely with our Geography.

Of course we will study math, language arts, Bible, reading, science, and history. We will also continue our outside classes at the Zoo, piano, dance, and art. I am looking for sign language and foreign language classes.

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is planning what we learn about and planning different ways to learn. Taylor and Aubrey both learn differently. What works for one does not work at all for the other. The one subject one LOVES, the other can not stand to waste her time doing it!! I enjoy the challenge of finding the right way for each one to learn and to help them love to learn.

So, whether you are homeschooling your children or sending them to public or private school, I hope that we all take time to be thankful for our children and the opportunities we have each day to impact them and make memories that will last a life time. Two of my favorite Bible verses to help me with the challenges of homeschooling are "Commit your work to the Lord, and then it will succeed." Proverbs 16:3 and "In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success." Proverbs 3:6

Bowling

Taylor, Aubrey, and Bennett love to go bowling together. They have lots of fun and lots of "friendly" competition. Nana took them bowling, to lunch, and then swimming. They had a great time and enjoyed the day together. Thanks Nana for a fun day!!

Dancing Friends

Aubrey has a friend named Rebekah. They have a lot in common anyway but this year Rebekah is beginning dance lessons at the studio where we attend and they will have even more in common. Rebekah came to visit last night and the girls had a great time choreographing their own dances. Jody and I were treated to a "dance recital" last night complete with costumes, duets, solos, and great music. It was an awesome recital. I can wait to see what this dance year has in store for both of them.

Week in Review

Where has this week gone? We have not done anything productive this week, just had fun. Isn't that what summer is about? Taylor has had cheer leading camp this week. We spent lots of time at the pool with family and friends. We went to Splash Country on Friday. We had fun shopping tax free on Saturday. etc, etc. Next week seems to have a lot of the same things going on except that Jody will be spending his week in Florida.

Oh, I almost forgot... We got a Wii Fit FINALLY!! We have been looking for one since they came out several months ago. We had no luck until yesterday and found one at the awesome Walmart!! We have just had it one day and I am soooo sore today - not a good sign about what kind of shape I am in!! We have been having fun playing the games and competing amongst each other on the Wii Fit. I think we will be having an Olympics going on at our house for the next few weeks as everyone tries to beat the other person's record. It has been a lot of fun.
